August 31  Mets called up P's Jason Anderson, Jeremy Griffiths, and Orber Moreno from Norfolk.

August 18  Mets disabled OF Cliff Floyd and called up OF Jeff Duncan from Norfolk.

Mets signed their first round draft pick, Lastings Milledge, to a 5 million contract.

August 13  Mets activated C. Mike Piazza from the DL and sent down OF Jeff Duncan to Norfolk.

July 29  Mets traded Inf. Rey Sanchez to the Mariners for minor league outfielder Kenny Kelly.

July 28  Mets traded P. Graeme Lloyd to the Royals for minor league pitcher Jeremy Hill.  Hill owes a 7.81 ERA so far this season.

July 27  Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Murphy announced his retirement effective after this season.  Murphy, 78, has been with the Mets since their inception year in 1962.  Bob has called more than 6,000 Mets games and his greatest thrill was calling Game 6 of the 1986 NLCS between Astros and Mets.

July 20  Mets activated P. Al Leiter and sent down Inf. Jorge Velandia to Norfolk.

July 18  Mets called up P. Edwin Almonte and sent down OF Prentice Redman to Norfolk.

July 17  Mets called up Inf. Jorge Velandia and designated OF Tsuyoshi Shinjo for assignment.  The club has 10 days to either trade, release, or outright him.  Shinjo is hitting .193 with a homer and 7 rbi's in 62 games.  Mets also recalled OF Prentice Redman from Norfolk.

July 16  Mets traded P. Armando Benitez to the Yankees for 3 minor  leaguers.  Yankees are also picking up the remaining $2.7 million of Benitez' contract that runs out after this season.  Mets received 3 P's Jason Anderson, Anderson Garcia, and Ryan Bicondoa.  Benitez is 3-3 with 21 saves, but has 7 blown saves this season.  However Benitez has the best save percentage in baseball the past 3 seasons, converted 90%.  Of the players received, Jason Anderson is the only one who has ML experience, going 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA in 22 games this season.

July 14  Mets traded OF Jeromy Burnitz to the Dodgers for 3 minor leaguers.  Mets received 2b Victor Diaz, P's Joselo Diaz and Kole Strayhorn.  Victor Diaz is a two time batting champion in the minor leagues.  After a miserable 2002 season, Burnitz is having a very good year, he is hitting .274 with 18 hrs and  45 rbi after missing a month with a broken hand.  Dodgers are picking up $2 million of $6 million of Burnitz' contract that runs out after the season.

July 1  Mets traded 2b Roberto Alomar to the White Sox for 3 minor leaguers.  Also, Mets will pay the rest of Alomar's contract that runs out after this year.  Alomar's time in NY didn't work out at all; last year he batted .266 and this year he is hitting .262 after he hit above .300 for his career.  Mets received P's Royce Ring and Edward Almonte and Inf. Andrew Salvo.  But Ring was the centerpiece of the deal, he was the sox's 2002 1st round draft pick and is considered to be a top closer.

Mets activated Inf. Rey Sanchez from the DL.

June 28  Mets called up OF Raul Gonzalez and sent down Tsuyoshi Shinjo to Norfolk.

June 18  Mets called up P. Dan Wheeler and sent down P. Jason Roach to Norfolk.

June 15  SS Jose Reyes hit his 1st ML home run, a grand slam, in Mets' 8-0 win over the Angels.  Reyes is the second Met to do this; Jack Hamilton did it in 1967.

June 13  Mets disabled P. Mike Stanton and called up P. Jason Roach from Norfolk.

June 12  Mets fired GM Steve Phillips and replaced him with Jim Duquette for the rest of the year.  Phillips started as the GM in July 1987 and for the first 3 years he did a great job.  He got the Mets to the playoffs in 1999 and to the World Series in 2000.  During that time Phillips acquired Piazza, Olerud, Benitez, Ventura, and Zeile.  After the 2000 World Series, Phillips didn't even negotiate with Alex Rodriguez, traded for Alomar, Burnitz, Cedeno, and Vaughn who aren't playing up to their potential and often injured.  Duquette was the Asst GM under Phillips and was given full authority to make moves.  Owner Fred Wilpon wants the Mets to get younger and more athletic.  Duquette will be also considered for the full time GM job after the season.

June 10  Mets promoted SS phenom Jose Reyes from Norfolk and disabled SS Rey Sanchez.  Also, Mets activated OF Timo Perez from the DL and sent down OF Raul Gonzalez to Norfolk.

June 6  Mets activated Inf Jay Bell and P. Mike Stanton from the DL and sent down Inf Marco Scutaro and P.  Pat Strange to Norfolk.
