September 30 Mets named Omar Minaya as the team's General Manager/Director of Baseball Operations. Minaya will have the full authority on every baseball decision, including the hiring of a new manager. For the last 3 years, Minaya was the GM for baseball owned Montreal Expos. Before that, Minaya was the assistant GM to Steve Phillips of the Mets. Omar is known as a great talent evaluator and an expert at scouting. Mets are hoping Minaya will bring stability to the franchise that it desperately needs. Jim Duquette, formerly the GM, is now Minaya's right hand man as the Senior V.P. of Baseball Operations.

August 3 Legendary Mets broadcaster and Hall of Famer Bob Murphy passed away after a short illness with lung cancer. He was 79. Since Mets inception in 1962, Bob was a constant. From 1962 to 2003, Murphy called over 6,000 Mets games and every Mets post-season games. Bob was the "Voice of Summer!" Mets also got Triple-A P. Bartolome Fortunato. Benson is 8-8 with a 4.22 ERA, but he has a 3.01 ERA in his last 10 starts. Zambrano is 9-7 with a 4.43 ERA. Zambrano has a huge upside, but he owns a 109-96 strikeout-to-walk ratio and recently have been suffering from a tender right elbow.
