September 30  Mets' historic collapse is complete; Mets had a 7 1/2 game lead with 17 games to go and they blew it.  Phillies won the division by 1 game.  Mets now hold the distinction of having the greatest collapse in baseball history. 

1b Carlos Delgado has a broken hand of being hit by a pitch in the season's finale. 

September 29  P. John Maine came within 4 outs of pitching the Mets' first no-hitter; Paul Hoover hit a little dribbler down the third baseline was the only hit.  Maine struck out 14, first Met pitcher to do that in 8 years. 

September 27  OF Moises  Alou's hitting streak ends at 30.

For the first time since May 16, Mets don't hold sole possession of first place. 

OF Marlon Anderson began serving his 2 game suspension tonight. 

September 23  OF Moises Alou broke the Mets all time hitting streak by hitting in 27 straight games.  The hitting streak is also the longest in the majors this season. 

September 22  OF Moises Alou broke the Mets' single season hitting streak by hitting in 25 straight games. 

OF Lastings Milledge was suspended 3 games for inappropriate actions in Thursday's game. 

Utility Man Marlon Anderson was suspended 2 games for inappropriate actions during last Saturday's game but he is appealing it.

Carlos Beltran was named the NL Player of the Week for August 12-19.  Beltran battled .375 with 4 hrs and 10 rbis for the week.  

August 19  Mets disabled INF. Damion Easley and brought up 2B Anderson Hernandez from New Orleans. 

August 18  Mets disabled C Ramon Castro and called up Sandy Alomar Jr from New Orleans.

August 10  Mets activated CF Carlos Beltran and put Utility Man Marlon Anderson on the ten day bereavement list. 

August 5  P. Tom Glavine became the 23rd pitcher in Major League Baseball history to win 300 games.  Glavine went 6 1/3 innings in the 8-3 win over the Cubs.  Glavine won 242 games with the Braves and 58 with the Mets. 

August 2  Mets called up P. Brian Lawrence and designated C Mike DiFelice for assignment. 

July 30  Mets acquired 2B Luis Castillo from the Twins for 2 minor leaguers.  Castillo, a 3-time Gold Glove winner, is hitting .304 with 11 doubles, 3 triples, and 18 rbis so far this season.  Mets needed a second baseman ever since Valentin was injured and Luis is a significant upgrade. 

Mets put CF Carlos Beltran on the disabled list.   

July 29  Mets called up OF David Newhan and C Mike DiFilice and demoted P's Mike Pelfrey and Joe Adkins to New Orleans. 

Mets activated IF Damion Easley and sent down IF Chip Ambres to New Orleans.

2b Jose Valentin injured his pinky finger breaking up a fight and is day-to-day.
