OFF-SEASON PLAYER TRANSACTIONS AND NEWS
February 6 Mets resigned P. Pedro Feliciano to an one year contract worth 1.6 million dollars, avoiding arbitration.
Mets also signed P. Elmer Dessens to a minor leagues contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
February 3 Mets resigned P. Oliver Perez to a three year contract worth $36 million dollars. Perez was 10-7 with a 4.22 ERA last season.
January 30 Mets avoided arbitration with P. John Maine by signing him to an one year $2.6 million dollars contract.
January 23 Mets signed P. Freddy Garcia to a minor leagues contract with an invitation to Spring Training. If Garcia makes the club he could earn up to 9 million dollars. The past two seasons he only won 2 games because of injuries. If healthy he is a big game pitcher.
Mets signed OF Rob Mackowiak, P's Tom Martin and Casey Fossum to a minor leagues contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
Mets also signed OF Cory Sullivan, a minor leaguer from the Rockies.
January 20 Mets avoided arbitration with 3 players; OF Jeremy Reed signed an one year contract worth $925,000, OF Ryan Church who was limited to 90 games last season, signed an one year contract worth 2.8 million dollars, and OF Angel Pagan got a $575,000 one year contract.
January 19 Mets resigned P. Duaner Sanchez to an one year $1.7 million dollars contract, avoiding arbitration. Sanchez was 5-1 with a 4.32 ERA in 66 games last season.
January 15 Mets signed Inf. Alex Cora to an one year $2 million. Cora batted .270 with a .372 On Base Percentage. Cora will back up Reyes and Castillo.
Tim Redding passed his physical and he is officially a Met.
January 9 Mets and P. Tim Redding agreed to an one year $2.25 million dollars contract. Redding was 10-11 with a 4.95 ERA with the Nationals last season. Redding must pass a physical before the contract is official.
December 12 Mets traded P. Scott Schoeneweis to the Diamondbacks for minor league pitcher Connor Robertson. Robertson was 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA with the Diamondbacks last season in 6 games.
December 11 Mets selected P's Darren O'Day from the Angels and Rocky Cherry from the Orioles in the Rule 5 Draft. The players must remain with the Mets all season long or they will be sent back to their original teams.
In a three team trade between the Mets, Mariners, and Indians, the Mets acquired Mariners' All-Star closer JJ Putz, OF Jeremy Reed, and P. Sean Green. Mets sent P's Aaron Heilman, Joe Smith, OF Endy Chavez, and 4 minor leagues. Indians and Mariners swapped minor leaguers to complete the trade. The key player was Putz, who will serve as KROD'S setup man. Two years ago he was the AL Fireman of the year saving 40 games. Last season Putz had several injuries and he saved only 15 games. Heilman had a terrible year and was never coming back. In 2006, Chavez made one of the greatest catches in Playoff history, but he is just a reserve outfielder.
Francisco Rodriguez passed his physical and now his contract is official. Also owner Jeff Wilpon gave KROD a tour of Citi Field.
December 9 Mets and All-Star reliever Francisco Rodriguez "KROD", agreed on a three year $37 million dollars contract pending on Rodriguez passing a physical. The contract includes a vesting option for a fourth year. Last season with the Angels Rodriguez broke the MLB's single season record in saves with 62. Mets desperately needed a closer, especially since Billy Wagner is out for the majority of next season after elbow surgery. Rodriguez is the best and is excited to be a Met.
December 8 Mets signed 4 players to minor leagues contract, they are P's Nelson Figueroa, Adam Bostick, Inf. Andy Green, and C Rene Rivera. Figueroa was 3-3 with a 4.57 ERA with the Mets last season.
November 17 3b David Wright finished 7th and 1b Carlos Delgado finished 9th in the MVP voting.
November 15 For the second season in a row, 3b David Wright won the Silver Slugger Award at his position. The Silver Slugger Award is for the most outstanding offensive player at each position.
Manager Jerry Manuel finished 6th in the Manager of the Year voting. Jerry got 3 2nd place votes and 1 3rd place votes totaling 10 points.
P. Johan Santana finished 3rd in the Cy Young Award voting. Johan got 4 1st place votes, 8 2nd place votes, and 11 3rd place votes totaling 55 points. If the bullpen didn't blow 5-7 games for him, he probably would have won the award.
November 5 CF Carlos Beltran and 3b David Wright won the Gold Glove at their respective positions. For Beltran it was his third straight Gold Glove, and for Wright, ,it was his second straight .
October 28 Mets picked up the $12 million option on Carlos Delgado's contract. Delgado had a resurgent season, hitting 38 home runs and driving in over 100 rbis.
Mets resigned OF Fernando Tatis to an one year $1.53 million dollars contract. He hit .297 with 11 hrs and 47 rbis. Tatis is also the NL comeback player of the year.
October 4 Mets and Jerry Manuel agreed on a two year contract with an option in 2011. Manuel took over as the Manager of the Mets on June 17 and under his leadership the Mets were 53-38. The Mets also contended for a playoff spot until the last game of the season. Manuel will get $1.5 per year. Jerry is the 18th Manager of the Mets and will be the first Mets Manager in Citi Field.
October 2 Mets rewarded GM Omar Minaya by extending his contract to four years with 2 option years in 2013 and 2014. Under Minaya the Mets have a .551 winning percentage and made the playoffs once. Omar have brought some big name players to Queens, such as Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, and Johan Santana.
October 1 P. Johan Santana underwent surgery on his knee and should be ready by Spring Training. He had a torn meticus.
P. John Maine underwent surgery on his right shoulder and should be ready by Spring Training.
