PLAYER TRANSACTIONS AND NEWS DURING THE 2012-13 OFF-SEASON

 

February 7  The Mets signed pitcher Brandon Lyon to an one year contract. Lyon was 4-2 with a 3.10 with the Astros and Blue Jays last season.

 

The Mets signed outfielders Corey Patterson and Mike Wilson to minor league contracts with an invitation to spring training.

 

February 1  The Mets signed outfielder Marlon Byrd to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

 

January 31  The Mets signed pitcher LaTroy Hawkins to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

 

January 30  The Mets avoided arbitration with second baseman Daniel Murphy by signing him to an one year contract worth $2.9 million dollars.

 

The Mets signed pitcher Scott Atchinson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

 

January 24  The Mets signed pitcher Shawn Marcum to an one year contract. Marcum went 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 21 starts last season with the Brewers.

 

January 21  The Mets signed pitcher Pedro Feliciano to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

 

January 20  The Mets avoided arbitration with first baseman Ike Davis by signing him to an one year contract worth $3.1 million dollars contract.

 

January 18  The Mets avoided arbitration with pitcher Bobby Parnell by signing him to an one year contract worth $1.7 million dollars contract.

 

January 3  The Mets signed outfielder Andrew Brown and infielder Omar Quintanilla to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

 

December 28  The Mets signed pitcher Aaron Laffey to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

 

December 18  Reliever Frank Francisco underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow. Francisco should be ready for Opening Day.

 

The Mets acquired outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Athletics for a minor leaguer. Cowgill split the season between the Major and Minor leagues.

 

December 17  The trade is official. The Mets are getting catchers Travis D’Arnaud and John Buck, pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, and 18 years old outfielder prospect Wulmer Becerra.  The Mets are giving up pitcher R A Dickey, and catchers Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas.

 

December 16  The Mets and the Blue Jays have agreed to a seven player trade in principle that the Mets would send NL Cy Young Award Winner R A Dickey to Toronto. The deal is contingent on Dickey agreeing on a contract extension with the Jays within 72 hours. The Mets also are sending catcher Josh Thole and a non-elite minor leaguer. The Mets would get catcher Travis D’Arnaud who is Toronto’s best hitting prospect and the 11th best prospect in the country, veteran catcher John Buck, Noah Syndegard who is Toronto’s top pitching prospect, and a non-elite minor leaguer.

 

November 30  The Mets and third baseman David Wright have agreed on an eight year contract worth $138 million dollars, making him a Met for life. It is the richest contract in club history. Wright is the face of the franchise and last season he surpassed Ed Kranepool as the club’s all-time hits leader. Manager Terry Collins said he will name Wright team captain.

 

November 26  The Mets resigned pitcher Tim Byrdak to a minor leagues contract with an invitation to spring training.

 

The Mets acquired infielder Brandon Hicks from the Athletes for cash considerations.

 

November 14  R A Dickey has won the National League Cy Young Award for 2012.  Dickey received 27 out of 32 first place votes. R A went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA and 230 strikeouts. Dickey became the fourth Met to win this award and the first knuckleball pitcher ever to receive this recognition.

 

November 7  The Mets and outfielder Jason Bay have agreed on a settlement that will end his time in NY. The Mets will pay Bay the remaining of his contract.

 

R A Dickey is named a CY Young award finalist.

 

The Mets signed catcher Mike Nickeas to a minor leagues contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

 

November 6  Outfielder Lucas Duda underwent successful wrist surgery and should be ready by spring training. Duda broke his wrist while moving furniture at his home.

 

R A Dickey was named the National League Most Outstanding Pitcher by the players.

 

The Mets picked up the 2013 option on David Wright and R A Dickey.

 

October 19  R A Dickey underwent successful abdominal surgery and should be ready by spring training.

 

The Mets released outfielder Fred Lewis.

 

October 17  The Mets released pitcher Justin Hampson and catcher Rob Johnson.
