PLAYER AND TEAM NEWS DURING THE OFF-SEASON 

 

February 4  Wilmer Flores won his arbitration case, getting $2.2 million dollars.

 

The Mets signed pitcher Jerry Blevins to an 1 year $6 million dollars contract.

 

The Mets signed pitcher Fernando Salas to an 1 year $3 million dollars contract.

 

The Mets signed pitcher Tony Gorzielanny to a minor league contract.

 

January 14  Wilmer Flores is the only player who has to go to a salary arbitration hearing.

 

The Mets avoided arbitration with Matt Harvey  by signing him to an one year $5.125 million dollars contract.

 

Jacob deGrom and the Mets agreed to an one year $4.05 million dollars contract, avoided arbitration.

 

The Mets and Jeurys Familla agreed to an one year $7.245( million dollars contract, avoided arbitration.

 

The Mets avoided arbitration with Addison Reed by signing him to an one year $7.75 million dollars contract.

 

The Mets and Josh Edgin agreed on an one year deal, avoided arbitration.

 

January 12  The Mets avoided arbitration with Lucas Duda by signing him to an 1 year $7.25 million dollars contract.                     

 

The Mets and Zack Wheeler agreed to an one year contract worth $800,000, avoiding arbitration.

 

The Mets signed Jenrry Mejia to a contract, avoiding arbitration. Though he won’t get any money because he is suspended by Major League Baseball because repeatedly drug violations.

 

November 30  The Mets resigned outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to a 4 year contract worth $110 million dollars. The contract also includes a full no trade clause. The average base salary is $27.5 millions. Cespedes who came to NY on July 31, 2015, led the Mets to 2 consecutive playoff appearances  including a World Series run in 2015.

 

Tim Teufel has accepted a position in the Mets organization.

 

The Mets traded pitcher Logan Verrett to the Orioles for cash considerations.

 

November 16  The Mets hired Glenn Sherlock from the Diamondbacks as the Third Base Coach and a Catching Instructor. The Mets reassigned Tim Teufel in the organization.

 

Manager Terry Collins finished  fourth in the NL Manager of the Year.

 

November 14  Neil Walker has accepted the $17.2 million dollars qualifying offer.

 

Yoenis Cespedes rejected the offer.

 

November 11  Bartolo Colon has signed with the Braves, ending his Mets career.

 

Yoenis Cespedes won the Silver Slugger Award for outfielders.

 

Jeurys Familla pleaded not guilty in his domestic violence case.

November 7  The Mets made a $17.2 million dollars qualifying offer to Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker.

 

November 5  Yoenis Cespedes has opted out of his contract, making him a free agent. Cespedes had 2 years remaining worth $47.5 million dollars.

 

The Mets picked up the 2017 option on Jay Bruce.

 

November 3  The Mets picked up the option on José Reyes contract. The Mets released pitcher Jonathon Niese.

 

November 1  Jeurys Familla was arrested for domestic violence allegations. He was released. Familla will probably be suspended by Major League Baseball.

October 7  Infielder Wilmer Flores underwent successful wrist surgery and should be ready for spring training.
