Diekman was signed to an one-year contract worth $4 million dollars. Diekman
had a 3.34 ERA with the White Sox and the Rays last season.
Shintaro Fujinami agreed to an
one-year contract worth 3.35 million dollars. Fujinami was with the Athletics
and the Orioles last season and had over 4.00 ERA.
January 27 Adam Ottavino is returning to the Mets by signing an one year
contract worth 4.5 million dollars contract. Ottavino
had a 3.21 ERA last season.
January 12 Longtime Met
Buddy Harrelson passed away due to
complications from Alzheimer’s. Harrelson is the only Met who participated in
both World Series Championships, 1969 & 1986. Buddy is also a member of the
Mets Hall of Fame.
Pete Alonso signed an one-year
contract worth $20.5 million dollars, avoiding arbitration.
January 7
Sean
Manaea agreed to a two-year contract worth $28 million dollars. Manaea had a
subpar season with the Giants in 2023. He had a 4.44 ERA in 37 appearances
which included 10 starts.
January 4
Harrison Bader
agreed to an 1 year contract worth $10.5 million dollars. Bader was with the
Yankees the last 2 seasons and is a career .243 hitter. Harrison plays
super defense in center field.
December 26 Chad Smith
was signed to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
Smith spent last season with the Athletics.
December 22 The Mets
lost out on Japanese star pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto as he signed a record $325
million 12 year contract with the Dodgers. Steve Cohen offered him the same
contract, but Yamamoto chose the Dodgers to play alongside his countryman
Shohei Ohtani.

November 30 Austin Adams
was signed to an one year non-guaranteed contract. Adams struggled last year
with the Nationals posting a 5.57 ERA.
November 29 According to
reports, the Mets are finalizing an one year contract with Luis Severino. The
deal is worth $13 millions, it can be up to $15
millions with incentives.
Severino, a former Yankee, has had an injury plaque career, but when he is on he is fantastic. In 2017 and 2018, Luis was 14-6 and 19-8
respectfully.
In addition Joey Wendle signed an
one year contract worth $2 million dollars. Wendle batted .212 last season with
the Marlins.
November 24 Former Mets
catcher Ron Hodges passed away from a short illness, he was 74. Hodges spent
his entire 12 year career with the Mets and was a
member of the 1973 National League Championship team.
November 22 According to
reports the Mets are hiring John Gibbons as their Bench Coach. Gibbons has
managerial experience with the Blue Jays. Also the
Mets are hiring Antoan Richardson for the First Base Coach, and Mike Sarbaugh
for the Third Base Coach.
The Mets named Andy Green the Player Development Director,
and Kris Gross the Director of Amateur Scouting.
November 17 Eric
Chavez will resume as the team’s Hitting Coach in 2024. He had that position in
202 when the team produced. Chavez was moved to the Bench Coach and the offense
was miserable. Jeremy Barnes will also resume Assistant Hitting Coach.
The Mets have non-tendered the following players, making
all free agents. They are Daniel Vogelbach, Luis Guilllorme,
Tim Scott, Jeff Brigham, and Sam Conrood.
DJ Stewart was tendered a contract of $1.5 millions.
November 14 Carlos Mendoza was
officially introduced as the 25th manager in franchise history.
President of Baseball Operations David Stearns did an extensive search and
decided on Mendoza. Carlos has a wealth of experience, including being a
manager in the Minor League, Minor League development,
scouting, and being a Bench Coach for the Yankees.
Kodai Senga finished second in the Rookie of the Year
voting.
November 11 Curtis
Granderson, Todd Zeile, and Darryl Strawberry has been
inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame.
November 9 Francisco
Lindor has won the Silver Slugger Award at Shortstop.
It is his third award in his career.
Pete Alonso came in second behind Matt Olson of the Braves.
November 6 The
Mets are naming Carlos Mendoza as their next manager. Mendoza has never been a manager, he spent the last 4 seasons as the Bench Coach for
the Yankees.
Adam Ottavino has exercised his
player option and elected to opt-out of his contract, making him a free agent.
Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor are finalists for the
Silver Slugger Award for their position.
October 18 Francisco
Lindor is a finalist for the Gold Glove at Shortstop. It would be his third.
The winner will be announced on November 5.

Lindor underwent elbow surgery and is expected to be ready for Spring Training.
Lindor had a bone spur that bothered him all season long.

In a
shocking development General Manager Billy Eppler resigned from his job, amid a
Major League Baseball ongoing investigation. MLB is investigating Eppler
because an improper use of the Injured List, which is a common practice in MLB.
According to reports someone leaked the information to MLB. David Stearns now
has more responsibilities until a new GM is hired. Owner Steve Cohen wished
Eppler all the best.

David
Stearns has become the first president of Baseball Operations in Mets history. Stearns
is a lifelong Mets fan and he began his career as an
intern in the Mets organization. For the last 7 years he built the Brewers into
a playoff caliber team. David first 2 jobs are to hire a manager then decide on
Pete Alonso, whether to sign him to a longterm
contract or trade him.
