NEWS
April 2 Mets traded P. Matt Ginter to the Tigers for P. Steve Colyer. Mets also released C. Kelly Stinnett.
March 30 Mets acquired SS Wilson Valdez, C. Kelly Stinnett, and SS Benji Gil. All players will report to Norfolk.
March 29 1b Andres Galarraga announced his retirement.
March 20 Mets acquired P. Kaz Ishii from the Dodgers for C. Jason Phillips. The Mets needed a starting pitcher ever since Steve Trachsel went down with a herniated disc in his back. The Japanese Ishii was 13-8 with a 4.21 ERA last season, but he walked 98 and struck out 99 batters in 172 innings.
March 17 Mets released the very popular utility man Joe McEwing. McEwing had been with the Mets since 2000. Joe was very good with the rookies and the young players. Also, he was a very good cheerleader on the bench.
March 16 P. Steve Trachsel will have surgery for a herniated disc and will miss at least the first half of the season. Trachsel has been very reliable and durable pitcher for the Mets. It will be very difficult to replace Trachsel's innings.
February 21 Manager Willie Randolph set some team rules, among them are; no facial hair except for neatly groomed mustaches, no music in the clubhouse except for walkmans, stand on the top step of the dugout when the National Anthem is playing, and no alcohol beverages in the clubhouse and on airplanes.
