SPRING TRAINING NEWS
March 24
Manager Terry Collins named Dillon Gee as the Opening Day starter.
March 20
Jonathon Niese will begin the season on the
Disabled List.
March 17
Jonathon Niese’s second MRI this spring on
his pitching arm came back negative and will resume baseball activities in a
few days.
March 16
Pitcher Jonathon Niese is returning to NY to
have a MRI on his left elbow. Niese left
today’s game after 2 innings due to left elbow discomfort.
March 10
First baseman Ike Davis will be out for a week with a strained calf.
First baseman Lucas Duda
has a strained hamstring but should be ready in a few days.
The Mets made their first round of roster
cuts, among them was pitcher Josh Edgin.
February 27 Jonathon Niese’s MRI came back clean and
should be ready in a few days.
General Manager Sandy Alderson believes that
the Mets can win 90 games this season.
February 26 Pitcher Jonathon Niese flew back to NY to
have a MRI done on his left shoulder. It is only precautionary but Niese said his shoulder felt “dead”.
February 24 First baseman Ike Davis admitted that he played with an oblique
injury last season. Then Davis argued with a NY Post reporter for reported it.
The Mets had their first full squad workout.
February 16 The Mets announced they will honor the legendary Ralph Kiner by wearing a patch on their jerseys throughout the
season, including Spring Training, and have an on-field ceremony on Opening Day.
In addition Mets Hall of Fame and Museum will create a space, which will be
called Kiner’s Korner,
that will have some of Kiner’s Hall of Fame
items and some of his famous broadcasting calls. Kiner
passed away on February 6.
February 14 The Mets and WOR-710 Radio announced that Howie Rose and Josh Lewin will return to broadcast games for the 2014 season.
Former Met Jim Fregosi
passed away because of multiple strokes, he was 71. The Mets traded Hall of
Famer Nolan Ryan for Fregosi in 1971.
