Spring Training News and Notes
March 24 The Mets signed Ruben Tejada to a minor league contract. Tejada
played with the Mets from 2010-16.
March 22 Both Todd Frazier and Jed Lowrie will
start the season on the Injured List.
The Mets announced
that they will change the address of Citi Field to honor Tom Seaver. The exact details will be announced in June.
March 11 Pitcher Drew Smith will have Tommy John Surgery and is out for the
entire season.
March 9 TJ Rivera was released.
March 8 According to a report, the Mets will unveil a statue for Tom Seaver outside of Citi Field sometime this year. It was in
planning stages for years and it isn’t a coincidence that Seaver was just diagnosed with Dementia.
March 7 Legendary Mets pitcher and Hall of Famer Tom Seaver
recently was diagnosed with Dementia and retired from public life, his family
announced. Seaver, who is known as the Franchise, led
the Mets to a World Series Championship in 1969.Tom won the Cy Young Award
three times and he won over 300 games. His only no-hitter happened when he was
on the Reds after the Mets traded him in 1977. Tom came back in 1983 to pitch
one season before the White Sox claimed him off the unprotected list. Tom along
with another Hall of famer Mike Piazza, closed Shea Stadium in 2008, then
opened Citi Field in 2009.
March 5 The Mets hired Jessica Mendoza as an another baseball advisor to
Brodie Van Wagenen. Mendoza’s roles will be in player evaluation, roster
construction, and technical advancements. Jessica will continue to broadcast
games on Sunday night for ESPN.
March 4 Al Leiter is back with the Mets as a special advisor to the GM.
Leiter will work with the pitchers throughout the organization about the mental
preparedness, also he will work in scouting and player development. John Franco
will serve in the same capacity.
Amed Rosario is ok after
being hit with a pitch. X-rays came back negative on his hand.
March 1 The Mets signed outfielder Carlos Gomez to a minor league contract.
Gomez hit .208 with the Rays last season. Carlos started his career with the
Mets 12 years ago.
February 27 Outfielder Brandon Nimmo is out until this weekend because he ate undercooked
chicken that he made himself. Unbelievable!
February 26 Infielder Todd Frazier suffered a strained left oblique and is out
indefinitely.
A MRI showed no
structural damage to Jed Lowrie’s left knee,
but his return is still uncertain.
February 20 Infielder Jed Lowrie is experiencing soreness
behind his left knee and will undergo a MRI tomorrow.
February 17 The Mets signed infielder Adeiny
Hechavarria to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Hechavarria hit .247 with 6 hrs last season with the Rays, Pirates, and
Yankees.
February 12 Jacob deGrom set Opening Day, March 28, to negotiate a new contract.

Pitchers and catchers report
on February 12 and the first official workout is on February 14.
