SPRING NEWS
April 3 Joely Rodriguez was acquired from the Yankees
for Miguel Castro. Rodriguez is a lefty and had a 4.66 ERA last season with the
Diamondbacks and the Yankees.
April 1 Jacob deGrom has a stress reaction to his
right scapula and he will miss a significant amount of the season. deGrom will
not throw for 4 weeks then he will have another MRI.
Also according to
a report Max Scherzer is dealing with a tight hamstring, but should be ready
for opening day.
Jacob deGrom has a
tight right shoulder and will miss his last start of the Spring today. He is
scheduled to have a MRI this morning.
March 24 New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced he
will lift the private sector vaccination mandate. This decision will allow both
Mets and Yankees unvaccinated players to play in their home stadium.
The Mets agreed
to 1 year contracts with their 13 arbitration eligible players, including Pete
Alonso’s 1 year $7.4 million dollars contract.
March 22 Jacob deGrom went 2 innings and gave up 0
runs, 1 hit, and struck out 5. It is the first time he pitched since July 7.
March 21 In his Mets debut Max Scherzer went 5 innings
with 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K’S, but he suffered the loss.
March 17 Travis Jankowski was signed to a minor league
contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Jankowski was with the Phillies
last year and he will compete for the fourth outfield spot.
March 15 Pete Alonso is lucky to be alive after
surviving a serious car crash. Alonso was driving from his home in Tampa to Spring Training in Port St. Lucie where
he was T-Boned at a traffic light. Pete’s vehicle flipped over 3 times
and he had to kick out the windshield to get out. Pete only suffered minor
bruises
Jacob deGrom will
exercise his player option at the end of the season to test free agency.
However many believe Steve Cohen will pay anything that he wants.
Starling Marte
sat out todays workout with a sore oblique.
March 13 Adam Ottavino was signed to 1 year contract.
The past 2 years he had above 4.00 ERA. Before that Adam was a dominant
pitcher.
March 12 Chris Bassitt was acquired from the Athletics
for 2 minor leaguers, JT Ginn and Adam Oller. Bassitt was an All-Star last season when
he had a 3.15 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.
March 10 The owners ratified the deal, so it is
official. LETS PLAY BALL !
BASEBALL IS
BACK! According to reports Major
League Baseball and the Players Union have tentatively agreed on a new
Collective Bargaining Agreement to end the 99 day lockout. Players voted yes
and owners are going to ratify the deal tonight. In my opinion, the owners gave
up a lot. It will be an 162 game schedule with Opening Day on April 7. Also it
will be back to regular baseball with no more 7 inning doubleheaders and a
runner on 2nd base to start an inning in extra innings. Free agency and trades
can begin after the ratification. woohoo.
March 9 Failed to reach an agreement with the Players
Union again, Commissioner Manfred cancels the next 2 series of the regular
season.
March 5 Major League Baseball announced the
cancellation of Spring Training games through March 18.
March 3 The Mets hired Elizabeth Benn as the Director
of the Major League Operations. This is a historic hiring because it is the
highest ranking job that a woman has in franchise history.
March 1 Unable to reach a Collective Bargaining
Agreement with the Players Union,, Commissioner Rob Manfred cancelled the first
2 series of the regular season. On Monday there was a growing sense of optimism
that a deal could be reached, but that fizzled Tuesday when the Union rejected
the Owners latest proposal.
February 28 Major League Baseball announced the
cancellation of Spring Training games through March 8. Today is Commissioner
Manfred’s imposed deadline to get a Collective Bargaining Agreement with
the Players Union done to get the full 162 games in.
February
19 Major League Baseball and
the player union will meet every day this week to try to reach an agreement in
order to have a 28 day Spring Training and the full 162 game schedule. So far
it doesn’t look so good but we will see.
The one they
actually agreed on to have the DH in both leagues, eliminating most of the
strategies in baseball.
