Out For The Year

September 28  The Mets have been eliminated from Postseason play. Unbelievable!

September 27  Entering the final day of the regular season the Mets and Reds are tied for the final Wild Card spot, but the Reds hold the tiebreaker. The Mets must win and the Reds must lose tomorrow for the Mets to make the Postseason.

September 6  Davey Johnson, the Manager of the 1986 World Series championship team, passed away. He was 82. Besides winning the  World Series, Davey still has the most wins by any Mets manager, 595.

Davey Johnson took the reins of the New York Mets in 1984 and immediately transformed a struggling franchise into a powerhouse. Known for his sharp baseball mind and fearless leadership, Johnson guided the Mets to their iconic 1986 World Series championship, a season in which they won 108 games, the most in franchise history.

Under his watch, the Mets became a swaggering, star-studded squad featuring Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Keith Hernandez, and Gary Carter. Johnson’s managerial style was bold—he empowered players to be themselves while demanding excellence on the field. He also became the first National League manager to win at least 90 games in each of his first five seasons, a feat that underscored his strategic brilliance.

Though his tenure ended in 1990 after a clash with management, Johnson left behind a legacy of dominance and drama. His 595 wins remain the most by any manager in Mets history, and his impact on the team—and the city—still echoes through Shea Stadium lore
