PLAYER TRANSACTIONS AND OFF-SEASON NEWS!

February 5  PETE IS BACK! Pete Alonso signed a two-year contract worth $54 million dollars. The contract is $30 millions in year 1 and $24 millions in year 2 with a player opt out after year 1. Alonso has the most home runs since 2019,  and is only 26 home runs away from Darryl Strawberry, the Mets all time home runs leader.

January 31  Nick Madrigal was signed to a split contract worth $1.35 million dollars. Madrigal played with the Cubs last season hitting only .221,  but he is great defensively.

January 29  Ryne Stanek agreed to an one-year contract worth $4-$5 million dollars. Stanek split last season with the Mariners and the Mets. He helped tremendously in the playoffs.

January 25  Adbert Alzolay agreed to a  two-year minor league contract. Alzolay had Tommy John surgery and likely to miss the entire 2025 season. However in 2023 Adbert saved 22 games for the Cubs.

January 21  Former Mets reliever Billy Wagner was enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Wagner was a Met from 2006-09. During his career, he struck out a third of his batters and has the highest percentage of strikeout rate by a left-handed pitcher. Billy finished his career with 422 saves and a 2.32 ERA. With the Mets he had 101 saves.

January 20  Former Mets manager Jeff Torborg passed away, he was 83. Torborg managed the Mets from 1992-93 and had a 85-115 record. Those years were dubbed “The Worst Team Money Can Buy” because they had an All-Star roster but they played terribly. Also they had several off the field incidents.

January 17  A.J. Minter signed a two-year contract worth $22 million dollars with a player opt out after the first year. Minter is an elite reliever; he had a 2.62 with 1.01 WHIP. He spent his entire 8 year career with Braves. 

January 16  Jesse Winker is coming back! Winker signed an one year contract worth $8 million dollars. Jesse was a key contributor in the club’s playoff run last season.

January 15  Austin Warren signed a minor league contract. Warren didn’t pitch last season because he had Tommy John Surgery.

The Mets signed International free agent 17 years old shortstop Elian Pena.

January 9 The Mets signed all 6 arbitration eligible players to one year contracts, avoiding arbitration. The players are David Peterson, Tylor Megill, Paul Blackburn, Jose Siri, Tyrone Taylor, and Luis Torrens.

December 23  According to sources, Sean Manaea is coming back to the Mets on a three-year contract worth $75 million dollars.Manaea had a career breakthrough since he changed his arm slot.

December 21  Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson has passed away, he was 65. Henderson was considered to be the greatest leadoff hitter of all time. Rickey was the MLB’s all-time leader in stolen bases, leadoff home runs and runs scored. Rickey played with the Mets in 1999 and a part of the 2000 season.

Anthony Gose and Luis Ortiz are signed to minor league contracts.

December 19  Griffin Canning signed an one year contract worth $4.25 million dollars. Canning pitched a career-high 171 innings with the Angels last season. Griffin will provide depth.

December 18  Chris Williams and Brandon Waddell are signed to minor league contract.

December 17  Jared Young was signed to a Major League contract.

December 13  The organization is planning to retire David Wright’s #5 Jersey and induct him in the Mets Hall of Fame.The ceremony will be held on Saturday July 19 before the Mets Reds game. Wright is the second player to have both his number retired and enter the Hall of Fame on the same day. Tom Seaver, The Franchise, was the first. 

December 12  Juan Soto is officially a New York Met! Soto was introduced to the New York media at Citi Field and when asked why he chose the Mets over the Yankees, he said “to build a dynasty.” Juan also said it also helped that Steve Cohen created a family atmosphere around Citi Field.

Yuhi Sako was signed to a minor league contract.

December 8  BREAKING NEWS!  Juan Soto, arguably the best player in baseball, signed a record $765 million dollars 15 year contract.  After he was traded from San Diego to New York last December, Soto hit a career-best 41 home runs with the Bronx Bombers in 2024. He also established single-season career highs in runs scored (128), extra-base hits (76) and bWAR (7.9). Those numbers respectively ranked first, fifth and fifth in the American League. This contract is the highest in Major League Baseball history. The contract had no deferrals and has only one opt out clause after the fifth year. This is a momentously day for the Mets and owner Steve Cohen because Soto chose the Mets over the Yankees and he is only 26 years old and a future Hall of Famer.

December 6  Clay Holmes agreed to a three-year contract worth $36 million dollars. Holmes Had 74 saves with the Yankees in 3+ seasons. However the Mets plan to use him as a starter.

December 2  Frankie Montos agreed to a two year contract worth $34 million dollars. Montos split last year with the Reds and the Brewers going 7-11 with a 4.84 ERA. Montos has been injury plagued during his career, so hopefully he is past that.

November 21  Francisco Lindor finished second in the Most Valuable Player Award voting. Lindor received 6 first-place votes and 13 second-place votes. Shohei Ohtani unanimously won the award.

Sean Reid-Foley agreed to an one year contract, avoiding arbitration.

November 20  Sean Manaea received only 1 vote in the Cy Young Award voting.

November 19  Manager Carlos Mendoza finished third in the Manager of the year Award voting. He received 1 first vote and 6 second place votes.

Jose Siri was acquired from the Rays for Eric Orze. Siri hit 43 home runs for the last 2 seasons and is a expert centerfielder.

As excepted Pete Alonso, Sean Manaea, and Luis Severino all declined their offers.

November 18  Justin Hagenman was signed to a  Major League contract, even though he hasn’t thrown a pitch in the Big Leagues yet.

Rafael Ortega and Donovan Walton were signed to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

November 12  Francisco Lindor won his 4th Silver Slugger Award at Shortstop.

Francisco Lindor is a finalist for National League Most Valuable Player Award.

November 11  Manager Carlos Mendoza is a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year Award.

November 8  Tyrone Taylor had 2 surgeries; hernia and elbow to remove some loose bodies. Taylor should be ready for spring training.

November 5  The team extended qualifying offers to Pete Alonso, Luis Severino, and Sean Manaea. Each contract is worth $21.05 million dollars. The players have to decide by November 19 either accept or decline.

November 3  Sean Manaea elected to opt out of his contract, making him a free agent.

November 1  Dylan Covey signed to a Major league contract. Covey did not pitch last season due to a shoulder injury.

November 1  Chris Devenski signed a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Devenski pitched last season with the Rays and the Mariners.
