PLAYER TRANSACTIONS AND NEWS DURING THE OFF-SEASON

February 9  MJ Melendez signed an one year contract worth $1.5 million dollars. Melendez can play all 3 outfield positions and possibly first base.

February 4  Carlos Beltran will enter the Hall of Fame as a Met.

Keith Hernandez signed a three-year contract with SNY.

Austin Barnes signed a minor league contract.

January 28  Grae Kessinger signed a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Kessinger provides depth in the infield.

January 24  According to reports, Craig Kimbrel signed a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Kimbrel appeared in only 14 games with the Braves and Astros posting a 2.25 ERA. Craig has 440 saves, one of the best in major leagues. If he makes the team, he will earn $2.5 million dollars.

January 23  Cooper Criswell was traded to the Mariners for cash considerations.

Richard Lovelady was released.

January 22  Vidal Brujan was acquired from the Twins for cash considerations. Brujan can play everywhere which is appealing.

Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers were acquired from the Brewers for Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams. Peralta is an ace striking over 200 batters and was 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA.

Tobias Myers’ most recent full MLB season (2025 with the Milwaukee Brewers) saw him pitch primarily in a swingman/relief role, finishing with a 3.55 ERA over 50.2 innings. 

January 21  Luis Robert Jr. was acquired by the White Sox for Luisangel Acuna. Luis is an elite centerfielder who once hit 38 home runs in 2023.

Luis Robert Jr.’s most recent full season (2025) was a mixed bag: strong defense and speed, but a down offensive year, finishing with a .223 average, 14 HR, 53 RBI, and a careerhigh 33 stolen bases.

January 20  Carlos Beltran is a Hall of Famer! Beltran received 84.2% of the vote in his fourth year of eligibility. Carlos played for the Mets from 2005-11 and was one of the best Met of all time. Beltran is likely to go in the Hall with a Mets cap. Carlos will go in the Hall with Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent on July 26.

            From 2005–2011, he posted 149 HR, 559 RBI, 100 SB, and a .280 average across 839 games, all career highs with any team.

January 16  Bo Bichette signed a three-year contract worth $126 million dollars that includes 2 opt out clauses. Bichette played with the Blue Jays throughout his career is great offensively and is expected to switch to third base, a position that he has never played before.

Tsung-Che Cheng was claimed from the Rays.

January 14  The Mets signed each of their six previously unsigned arbitration-eligible players on Thursday.

Pitchers David Peterson, Tylor Megill, Reed Garrett and Huascar Brazob?n and catchers Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens all avoided the possibility of an arbitration hearing when they agreed to their respective one-year deals.

December 24  According to a report, Mike Baumann to a contract, financial terms are not known. Baumann pitched in Japan last season.

December 22   Jeff McNeil was traded to the Athletics for pitching prospect Yordan Rodriguez. The Mets also are sending $5.25 millions. McNeil spent 8 seasons with the Mets during which he won the National League Batting Title in 2022. However there are rumors he was a troublemaker in the clubhouse.

December 17   Luke Weaver has signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the New York Mets, leaving the Yankees bullpen to join their crosstown rivals. The contract is for two years worth $22 million dollars, pending a physical. In 2025, He finished with a 3.62 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 64.2 innings

Clay Holmes and Nolan McLean have been selected to participate in World Baseball Classic in March.

Drew Romo was claimed from the Orioles.

December 15  Cristian Pache signed a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Pache is a defensive whiz in the outfield.

December 13  Jorge Polanco signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the New York Mets, where he’s expected to primarily play first base as a replacement for Pete Alonso.The contract does not include any opt-outs. 2025 Season Performance: Polanco rebounded from a poor 2024 season with Seattle to post his best offensive numbers since 2021:

          Batting average: .265

          OPS: .821

          Home runs: 26

          RBIs: 78

December 10  Per Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen on his record setting day “Pete Alonso is now the most prolific home run hitter in New York Mets history.” He still is but he is now a member of the Baltimore Orioles. Alonso signed a five year contract worth $155 million dollars. Pete hit 264 home runs surpassing Darryl Strawberry. It has been a sad week for the fans.

December 9  Edwin Diaz is no longer a New York Met. Reportedly Diaz signed with the Dodgers for three years and $69 million dollars. The Mets offer was three years and $66 million dollars. Diaz is the third on the club’s saves list with 124. The trumpets has been silenced.

Carl Everett Jr. was signed to a minor league contract.

December 1  According to reports, Devin Williams agreed to a 3 year contract worth $45 million dollars. Before last season, Williams was an elite closer, but last season with the Yankees he had problems.

November 24  The Brandon Nimmo trade is official as he waived his no trade clause. The Mets also sent cash considerations.

November 23 According to a report, the Mets are trading Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers for Marcus Semien. It is an one for one trade. Nimmo has spent his entire 10 year career with the Mets and has a full no trade clause, so he can veto the trade. Semien finished 3rd in the MVP voting  in 2023, but slacked off in 24 and 25. Marcus is still great defensively.

November 21  Tyrone Taylor agreed to an one year contract worth $3.8 million dollars, avoiding arbitration. Also Mike Kranick, Danny Young, and Juan Castillo were non-tendered, making them free agents.

The coaching staff is finalized.

November 18  Frankie Montas  was released.

November 14  Edwin Diaz won the NL Reliever of the Year award.

Juan Soto is on the first team and Edwin Diaz is on the second team of the All MLB Squad.

November 13  Carlos Beltran, Bobby Valentine, and Lee Mazzilli will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame, the club announced. The date is yet to be announced.

Juan Soto finished 3rd in the MVP voting and Pete Alonso finished 11th.

Jeff McNeil had thoracic outlet surgery but should be ready for Spring Training.

November 8  The club extended a $22.025 million dollars qualifying offer to Edwin Diaz. This means if Diaz signs with another team, the Mets would get a draft pick.

Pete Alonso and Juan Soto won the Silver Slugger Award at their position. It is the first for Alonso. For Soto, it is his sixth award with 4 different teams, Nationals, Padres, Yankees, and Mets.

November 5  Juan Soto is a finalist for the N.L. MVP Award.

Edwin Diaz has opted out of his contract, making him a free agent.

The Mets declined the option on Drew Smith, making him a free agent.

Frankie Montas exercised his option and is returning to the Mets.

Brandon Waddell signed an one year Major League contract.

Joey Gerber was acquired from the Rays for cash considerations.

October 29  Troy Snitker will be named as team’s Hitting Coach. Troy is the brother of Braves Manager Brian Snitker, was the Astros Hitting Coach and turned their hitting program in a positive way.

According to reports, Antoan Richardson will not be back as their First Base Coach.

October 24  Francisco Lindor underwent a small procedure on his elbow, but he should be ready for Spring Training.

Richard Lovelady signed an one year Major League contract.

October 15  The Mets named Kai Correa as the Bench Coach and Jeff Albert as the Major League Hitting Coordinator.

Joe Jacques signed a minor League contract with an Invitation to Sprint Training.

David Peterson and Luis Torrens are Gold Glove finalists.

October 11  Reed Garrett underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2026 season. He is the fifth Mets pitcher to have this type of surgery this season.

October 3 Carlos Mendoza will return as Manager for the 2026 season.

Pitching Coach Jeremy Hefner, Hitting Coaches Eric Chavez & Jeremy Barnes, Bench Coach John Gibbons, and Third Base Coach Mike Sarbaugh will not be returning next season. The Mets had a terrible second half and something had to be done.

Also Catcher Instructor Glenn Sherlock retired from baseball.

September 29  Pete Alonso has opt out of his contract, making him a free agent.
